Friends in Law allows participating sets of Chambers to be recognised as key Pro Bono supporters; each of the sets has contributed to both the Unit and FRU both financially and through their barristers commitment to volunteering. The scheme reflects the increasing importance placed on pro bono work by the Bar, with all participating chambers encouraging their candidates for pupilage and tenancy to take on pro bono work to a minimum level every year.
The Unit works with each set of chambers to ensure that their support is tailored according to their resources, and the membership of each set is reviewed on an annual basis to ensure that the scheme is operating to maximum effect.
We are thrilled to announce that Tanfield Chambers have become the 9th set to join the Friends in Law Scheme. They have got 2010 off to a great start and we hope other sets will join them in showing their support for the two charities. This support is invaluable.
