This January we are excited to be launching the Exeter Family Law Clinic, established in cooperation with CASS Plus.

The Clinic will provide support to Litigants in Person who either have or are considering bringing current Private Family Law proceedings or Family Law Act proceedings, and will do so by providing 40-minute, in-person pre-booked appointments with a volunteer barrister on duty on that day.

During these appointments, volunteer barristers will be asked to provide legal advice in relation to merit, next steps and understanding the proceedings. Once litigants in person have had their appointment, they will then be provided follow up practical support from CASS+ and, if further legal assistance is needed, they will be referred to Advocate for pro bono help.

The Clinic offers not only valuable support for litigants in person but also a fantastic opportunity for barristers at the family bar to get involved with pro bono, expand their experience and work closely with local judiciary.

The Clinic was launched on Wednesday 17th January 2024 at an event kindly hosted by Exeter Law Courts.

The Clinic will begin accepting appointments at the end of February 2024, so there’s still plenty of time to sign up to assist, or get in touch to hear more about how you can get involved. If you would like further information about the Clinic or would like to get involved, please contact our Schemes Caseworker, Jessica, at southwestprobono@weareadvocate.org.uk
